Wild Deep [Blu-ray]

Gorgeous imagery, no subtitles
I know I'll get down-voted for posting a less-than-stellar review for this release simply because of this, but I wanted to warn other hearing impaired people that this release has no subtitle options. The photography is brilliant, the series is stunning, but stick to trying to catch it on Animal Planet itself, where the show is closed captioned.

STUNNING PHOTOGRAPHY!!!
Ocean Lovers, will Enjoy this well done Visual Treat! Coral Reefs, my favorite, to Anartica are well covered. Enough here, unique, even if you own, the Blue Planet, and or other Sea life discs. Pushes your HDTV to visual limits.

Wild about Wild Deep!
the photography was stunning and the narration eductional without being boring. I would reccommend this to anyone who wants to know more about our reefs and their inhabitants.

Definitive Guide To: The Mob

THE STORY OF ONE MOBSTER
When I was in high school I took a sudden interest in all things mob related. I read book after book beginning with THE VALACHI PAPERS. For a while it held my interest culminating with finally seeing the film and reading the book THE GODFATHER. While that movie is still one of the best ever made, my interests have dwindled a bit. But when something comes along I still make a point of watching whether it's a TV documentary or something like this new DVD release.

This new DVD first appeared on The History Channel a while back. While it purports to be the definitive guide, it actually gives some of the basics as seen through the eyes of one man, Michael Franzese. The DVD tells the story of how he was the son of a man already involved with the Mafia and how he eventually approached his father about joining himself.

Franzese is a well dressed, successful looking man in the film. He presents himself well but as it progresses he makes it clear that men like him...

An Interesting Documentary
The dust jacket shows that this documentary was originally made for the History channel/
A&E Networks and has now been released in a DVD version.

If you are one of millions that enjoyed watching Godfather, Scarface, Sopranos or the various
other dramatizations of the "Mafia", then you may be interested in this documentary. This
is mostly one man's story, and that man is Sonny Franzese, whose father was in the New York
Colombo family. Despite his father hoping that he'd pursue a more honest career, the acorn
didn't fall far from the tree as the saying goes, and Franzese ended up becoming a
"regimentcapo" or captain for the Colombo family during the late-golden years for the New York
mob families. Franzese is one of the very few "made" men who (he says) exited organized crime
without leaving in a coffin, dying in prison or being in the witness protection program.
Essentially how that happened was a combination of favorable...

Mafia survivor
This is a 90 minute DVD with English and Spanish subtitles. It also has extras of trailers.

Michael Franzese followed his family business with the Colombo family. He tells his story and with that the story of the Cosa Nostra is revealed and examined. There are graphic photos and films - shootings and the deaths of mobsters. There are interviews with other mob members.

We learn how to get into the mob and, make money - $2 million a weeks. Michael Franzese is known as the only man to survive quitting. He tells the story of the Colombo family. The history and structure from the Black Hand with period films, and photos is given with interviews of authors and police.

Franzese was probably able to survive because of the dwindling power of the mob. This is his story and that of a powerful crime syndicate. The film is done well and holds an interest for history buffs and those who are fascinated by this criminal family.

Orphan Black: Season One

No-spoilers review--and you really need that for Orphan Black
If ever a TV show needed a no-spoilers review it's this one. The trouble is, everything's a spoiler when "Orphan Black" is concerned, and the less you know going in, the more fun you'll have with this show's onrushing tidal wave of plot twists and turns.

So--what can I tell you that will let you know whether you want to see this or not without spilling all those beans? Well, I'll try.

1. Don't see this if you need glossy, upbeat Hollywoody science fiction. There isn't a single Dudly Do-Right in the entire cast of characters. Everyone has issues. Everyone has baggage. Problems can't always be solved by sweet reason, Star Trek style. And who's a Good Guy or a Bad Guy isn't always clear, even when you learn just who and what they are. And with some of the more damaged characters, they can't necessarily be fixed--ever. Some things you can't come back from. And problems don't have quick fixes. That is, there's no pandering to your inner 12 year old. This is a show for...

Best beginning to a series.
I'm hard to impress about TV shows, especially beginnings. First episodes-- even for good ones-- can be awkward, with the cast and writers not yet finding the chemistry.

This one hit managed to hit maximum speed seconds after it began, and then spent the rest of the show proving there was more to spare. Somehow, it did this without sacrificing character development. Thanks to co-creator John Fawcett's taut direction, and remarkable performances by Tatiana Maslani as three physically identical women with distinct personalities, accents and mannerisms. She even plays one mimicking another, with her cockney accent wavering.

The story is about Sarah, a young woman surviving on the margins as a hustler and a drug dealer, who's just walked out on her boyfriend. She witnesses a stranger identical to herself, Beth, commit suicide. Sarah steals and assumes her identity. Despite the fact that Sarah had little to lose, it turns out this was not the best move. The mysterious...

Not the same clone.
Story seems at first to be something you've seen before but quickly intrugued me with its nuances and excelent preformance by the lead actress Tatiana Maslany. I realy believe when she's portraying the diffrent clones on screen at the same time. That they are their own unique characters.

Flying Monkeys

Attack Of The Plastic Monkeys: Standard SyFy Silliness With A Surprising Amount Of Heart
4 stars: Lovers of Cheesy SyFy Fare
2 stars: Everyone Else

In approaching a SyFy channel original creature feature, there are only so many resultant options available in terms of entertainment value: (1) The movie can be unrelentingly and painfully bad, (2) it can be so delightfully horrendous that it's camp nirvana, or (3) it can be genuinely frightening or effective. Faithful fans of the network's slate of films will realize that most fall within the first category while only a minuscule few hit that third category. No, as a true SyFy fan, I generally hope for that second classification: cheesy goodness that makes bad movie magic! If you like pure silliness, you have to think that a movie entitled "Flying Monkeys" offers the potential for great fun. Coincidentally (or not so coincidentally), SyFy premiered this epic on the same weekend that the new Oz movie hit mainstream theaters. SyFy knows how to take advantage of these synergistic opportunities...

WHERE'S THE MONKEY?
After a quick glimpse of our flying monkey, the film opens with graduation in Gale, Kansas. Dad (David Kranig) was once again late for his daughter Joan's (Maika Monroe) event. This time it was graduation. So being the loving dad that he is, he makes up for it by throwing money at the issue and buys her a monkey from the local pet store that deals in illegal animals.

From the subplot in China we discover this is not an ordinary monkey, but one that turns into a flying demon at night with special effects that made be think of the harpies from "Jason and the Argonauts." Now the kicker is that this F-ing monkey demon can not be killed with ordinary weapons, but only those blessed in China 1000's of years ago. (I love it when bad plots collide.) Now how many of those do you find in gun crazy Gale, Kansas? Oh BTW, the monkey has taken a shine to Joan.

I think you see where this is going.

Part of the film is shown through a monkey's eye view which used a...

Above Avg SyFy Ch Movie
This movie steals from The Wizard of Oz, Gremlins, and Jeepers Creepers. And to top it off it is a "SyFy Channel Movie". Normally that is the kiss of death. But this one is actually not that bad. The story is decent. The acting is decent. And the CGI monkeys are decent. But some how the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. It just sort of works....against all odds!!! Bought the DVD for under $5 so I am keeping it and will watch it again some time.

Never thought I'd EVER give a SyFy Ch movie 3 stars!

Kidnapped (1997): Standard Edition Remastered

Kidnapped aka Rabid Dogs
I'll admit that I've never seen films by Mario Bava. I've only recently gotten into Italian Cinema with the films of Dario Argento and other Giallo taken up my interest. Until now I had never tried any Bava. So hearing of this film and being intrigued with the premise I picked up the DVD.
The premise of the film is four criminals rob a pharmaceutical companies payroll during which the getaway driver is killed. The three remaining killers flee to a parking lot taking hostages, one of which they kill in order to escape. Afterwards in order not to be spotted by police in a familiar car they pull off and take more hostages this time a middle aged man and a sick child. At this point the films been a violent crime film. When it gets in the car the film is basically centered on the drive of the criminals and their hostages. Whats good in the film despite minor flaws is that even in its form (neither Rabid Dogs or the re-edited Kidnapped was completed with Bava's support due to...

Saved by the end
Note; this US Anchor Bay DVD has two alternate cuts, one finished by
Bava's son, called 'Kidnapped'. But almost all Bava fans and
professional critics prefer the rougher edged, less polished original
;'Rabid Dogs', so that's what I watched.

--vague possible mild spoilers ahead --

It's a film that is saved by the rare truly successful twist ending,
that changes everything you thought you saw. The acting is less than
great, and the film has a definite misogynistic tone (although everyone
in it is pretty awful on the humanity scale).

On the other hand, there's effectively high tension, as 3 murderous
robbers take two innocent people and a baby hostage. Especially
impressive that it never gets talky or visually dull, despite taking
place almost entirely inside a car.

But the over-acting and clunky dubbing (and writing) really hurt. Then
the end came and I was suddenly ready to forgive a lot.

Mario Bava takes a little drive in the country
Some films are just born unlucky. Mario Bava's 'lost' 1974 film Rabid Dogs is a classic case in point. Shooting started as A Man and a Boy with Al Lettieri and an extremely low budget: Lettieri dropped out after a week due to 'illness' and the money barely materialised only for the film to never get through post-production when the producer died and the film was seized by creditors for a quarter of a century. When co-star Lea Lander pulled together a deal to get Bava's rough cut restored, the only US deal she could get with it was with producer Alfred Leone, who, in a throwback to the old days when no foreign film could be allowed on US shores untouched, promptly re-edited, rescored and redubbed the film with new dialogue and added stock footage and new scenes shot by the director's son Lamberto Bava 'to complete it the way my old friend wanted it to be seen.' Sure... An attempt to make a more contemporary shocker in a more naturalistic setting as the European horror genre was hitting...

Masterpiece Mystery: Endeavour Series 1

these are fabulous!!
i watched all of the Inspector Morse episodes and also read the novels. little was i expecting that he would be resurrected for uk tv as a much younger man, at the start of his career. and i certainly wasn't expecting to like it as much or more than the original series! but indeed i do. this is absolutely first rate in every single episode. shaun evans is wonderful as morse.

a smart decision they made was to make his mentor, detective Thursday, every bit as fascinating as Morse. this part is played by one of my very favorite actors from THE THICK OF IT, roger allam. allam played peter on that show and his deadpan humor was priceless. they couldn't have picked a better actor for Morse's mentor. i enjoy Thursday much more than i ever enjoyed lewis as morse's partner.

much like the uk show GEORGE GENTLY, this show also benefits by being set back in time, the sixties i believe.

each mystery is very complex and morse brings to it all of his erudite...

Beware - May Not Be the Original UK Edition
PBS edits 10-15 minutes out of each episode that they show on "Masterpiece Mystery." I am hesitant to purchase any version of "Endeavour Series 1" that does not say 'Original UK Edition' on the front of the DVD. Beware! You sure don't want to buy the edited versions! These programs are so fabulous, there isn't a single gratuitous instant in them that isn't required to fully understand the story. Caveat emptor!

Morse Meets Madame Butterfly
If you like Inspector Morse, you will love Endeavor. It is the story of how Morse begins the force and picks up his traits, including the Jaguar. I only wish they'd make more of these early years with the same actor. It's well worth the few quid that Endeavor costs!

Patrick McGoohan in, "The Prisoner" is no less than 5 stars!
I have the entire series on VHS. Found the series here at Amazon. The clarity is awesome and even if it, "seems colorized", there is a BIG SMILE upon my face just to see Patrick McGoohan back in his prime.

Thanks for making it possible for me to relive my younger years with my favorite actor.

The Prisoner
I started watching the Prisoner years ago and I thought it was well done. However, I heard it wouldn't last because it was to cerebral. That is why I liked it.

Interesting
This is an interesting show and I have been watching The Prisoner since I was young. I feel it is more science fiction but you won't be disappointed.

Young Justice Game of Illusions: Season 2 - Part 2

cartoon network=idiots
Young justice was the best cartoon on cn since jl/jlu. They cancelled it due to the lack of revenue generated from toy sales. If that was the case, stop with the big displays, lower the price point, put out characters that people want and really cater to the fans! Sheer stupidity on the parts of mattel and cn. Anyway, I can't recommend more highly a cartoon. The animation, voice acting, action, character development=excellence. Wish it was still airing instead of this teen titans go/beware the batman crap!

Over too soon!
Cartoon network messed up putting this on early saturday morning. It should have been in the 8pm to 10pm time slot; it was meant for an older ordinance. The stories where great, the development of the characters was awesome, the artwork is great and the action was phenomenal. The downfall of this show was the time slot and the big time gaps between episodes. If you love comics, the JL cartoon, the JLU cartoon or the Teen Titans cartoon or are looking to get something you and the kids can see together and not go crazy or you are trying to get your kids into this is the thing for you. It is like the teen titans all grown up with lots of action and great stories. If I had any say in it I would have done at least three more seasons. There was lot's of more stories to be told. My opinion get the entire series now you will love it!!!!!!!!!!

One of the best cartoons ever!!!!!
It's a shame when people who have no idea what they are doing are making decisions that impact the masses. That is just what happened with this wonderful cartoon. The IDIOTS at cartoon network cancelled this just because it didn't sell enough toys. RIDICULOUS!!!! This is by far one of the best cartoons ever. I would love to see full BluRay editions of the 1st and 2nd season. But you know that won't happen because cartoon network is apparently ran by mongoloids.

WWE: Payback 2013

Cena & Ryback Go Through Hell....And Tables & Ambulances
Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett vs. The Miz vs. Curtis Axel - This was originally scheduled for a triple threat with Fandango but was replaced by Axel due to the concussion he suffered. Heyman played a important part right from the start advising Axel to stay to the outside & pick his moments which we did see from time to time along with other action such as moments where one man hit an offensive move on his opponent only for the third man to deliver another maneuver right after, everyone in the match having a one on one face off at some point in the match, everyone breaking up pin attempts, and plenty of back & forth sequences with an ending that I've never seen before in this type of match. This was a non-stop action opening match that showcased each man well at moments but will mostly be remembered for the history this result made on the day of this event.

Divas Champion Kaitlyn vs. A.J. Lee - Kaitlyn was out for revenge for her entire "secret admirer" being...

WWE Payback review
The Triple Threat for thr Intercontinental title(Wade Barrett vs The Miz vs Curtis Axel) was fun enough and probably the best choice for a opener with lots of near falls and false finishes to boot. The Divas title match between Kaitlyn & AJ Lee was one of the best Divas matches in recent memory. The United States title match between Dean Ambrose & Kane was boring & plodding. The Worlds title match between Doplh Ziggler & Alberto Del Rio was a amazing back-and-forth bout. The Chris Jericho-CM Punk match was great and just as good as thier past bouts. The Tag Team title match between The Shield(Rollins & Reigns) against Team RK-NO(Randy Orton & Daniel Bryan) was also great. The Three Stages of Hell match for the WWE title between John Cena & Ryback while predictable, still had it's good highspots and moments. I give this PPV a 8 out of 10.

WWE delivers another fine event in Chicago
It took two matches to make me believe that this would have the makings of a great event. But with those came a night of spectacular surprises. First off, the return of Rob Van Dam was confirmed to pump up the WWE Universe. The card delivered more than was expected.

1) Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship
Wade Barrett(c) vs. The Miz vs. Curtis Axel
I'm glad the WWE is reviving this title in some way. The Barrett-Miz rivalry took an unexpected turn and was untouched for two months. Curtis Axel, formerly known as Michael Mcgillicutty, is Paul Heyman's new apprentice which seems to be big to WWE. But he was able to wrestle quite well at a lower level in WWE. A suspenseful opener with Axel being the main source of attention, but the Miz made his presence known with some nice spots. I wouldn't skip it. 7.5/10

2) Diva's Championship Match
Kaitlyn vs. AJ
This match should have taken place at Extreme Rules, but the rivalry lasted...

Omega Doom

A lot of movies used this plot. This one is for sci-fi ppl.
The idea for this "lone warrior enters town with two rival gangs and plays upon them both", was started by Akira Kirowsawa with his film "Yojimbo". "Fistfull of dollars","Last Man Standing" and lastly "Omega Doom" all reiterate the plot because it's a mythos with some power. For one thing it moves away from the notion of a simplistic "good v.s. evil" conflict and presents us instead with the relative dyanmics of beings with different agendas struggling with one another. One could complain that they use such an oft repeated plot in "Omega Doom" but if you look at the majority of what comes out of HollyWood...a mere 4 versions of one storyline makes it pretty fresh! [: I would recommend seeing Yojimbo before seeing any of the remakes, BUT as remakes go I like Omega Doom best. The plot is a bit THIN in comparison to the others. It's not as involved or as direct to the plot. BUT the movie makes an...

Call me Mr Weird but I liked it...
I think some of this film's reviewers are so 'blown away' by films with excesive CGI, big budgets - and even bigger names - that they either won't, or cant, see the good in lesser offerings. This film makes so many sly references to other films that part of the fun is spotting them.

Take the opening where we see a foot coming down on a pile of human bones and skulls. Terminator, right? Then there's all the other stuff that people have picked up on by Sergio Leonne but why has no one mentioned Clint Eastwood and Pale Rider? The scene at the end where Hauer's character just disappears into the sunset? I mean, come on... Oh yeah, and the penultimate fight scene between the Bauhaus look-a-like droid and Hauer is straight out of The Matrix PLUS the Talking Head was like a character out of the Wizard of Oz.

To me this film had humour, atmosphere and subtlety and a cracking performance from Rutger Hauer as the thinking man's - or woman's - Schwarzenneger. I feel...

Not Supposed to be Van Damme
Nah, I don't think it's a horrible movie. Sure it lacks a lot of action that movies of the period had, but I never thought of this as an action movie anyway. It seemed to me to be more like a comic book/graphic novel meets 70's samurai movie meets spaghetti western. Despite the obvious overarching situation (apocalypse, possibility of humans returning, obvious society gone to hell), it pretty much all but ignores that and focuses on the problem at hand: ridding the robot town of the "bad guys." It ends with a sense that Omega Doom has really done nothing more than put a band-aid on the whole situation, but his actions are more along the lines of self-preservation than anything else. He just showed up for a drink and gets sucked into a fight. That's how pretty much any of the same genre starts. Someone comes along, wanting to be left alone, but some dumb schmuck picks a fight and then our hero has to teach them a lesson. Nothing is resolved, the world is still as crummy as it ever was,...

Alphas: Season Two

Superb Sophomore Effort!
I have seen 5 of the 13 total episodes slated for release. I'm glad that show wasn't cancelled and was renewed this season. Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off, as Dr. Rosen and his team of ALPHAS investigate and track down Stanton Parish, the leader of "Red Flag:" a terrorist organization with a hidden agenda.

There are plenty of new surprises such as the introduction of new ALPHAS and character histories. For example, in episode 4, "When Push Comes to Shove," Nina's past is revealed and highlights how she used her gift to control others with dire consequences.

If you loved season 1, you gotta keep up with season 2!

OMG! love it!
*some nonspecific spoilers*
Normally cliffhanger endings piss me off but in this case I will make an exception. Loved it! Love the character developement on this show. Love that they brought back Summer Glau. Love that they have Sean Astin. Love that the girls get to be the ones who save the world with their minds instead of the boys with their guns. Love all the new questions that this episode brought up. I can't wait for the new season!

A Different Spin
The major reason I continue coming back to watch this show, week after week, is that it takes a new spin on superpowers. Take Gary for instance: he has a tremendously useful ability, but he's also autistic. Or Hicks, whose ability comes and goes with his confidence. They're normal people landed with extraordinary skills, and they deal with them as if we would. Not to say that other shows/series like X-Men or Heroes don't do this, but the way Alphas handles it makes it unique. Nearly every ability introduced has a very in-depth scientific explanation, and many of them seem entirely plausible! To me this creates a fresh spin to the superhero genre, and connects the extraordinary to our reality in a way much closer than other titles within the genre.

Basically: I love this show and hope others do too :D

Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama

Funky fun for fans of all things b-movie.
When a group of frat boys get caught peeping in on a sorority's initiation they get roped into helping the pledges steal a trophy from a bowling alley. Too bad that the trophy they choose just happens to have an evil little imp (the movie's original title was, in fact, The Imp) trapped inside. This seemingly grateful, at first, Imp grants wishes to the guys and gals that then backfire in horrible ways. Turns out he just wants to kill everyone. Heck, I would to if I were locked up inside a bowling trophy for years on end.

What makes this piece o' trash work as well as it does is seeing just how much fun the cast (which is terrific - Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle 'aka porn star Pia Snow' Bauer) obviously had making this dumb thing. Of course this could also be explained by the fact that, according to director David DeCoteau, just about everyone was falling down drunk when they made it. The caterers bar was put to very good use. Recommended for viewers looking for dumb...

Who's a nasty little Imp?
You know, B movies come in all shapes and sizes, sci fi, horror, comedy. What makes it a B movie? Bad acting, bad directing. bad script, plot holes, stereo typed characters, and more importantly a little T and A. Don't forget the ultra long cheesy title. Oh did I mention the bad acting? Its because of those aforementioned items that I gave this four stars. B movies aren't just a bad movie its an art form.
O.k. so three frat boys get busted by the Sorority for watching sorority initiates getting their fannies paddled(god bless those sorority girls) and sneaking in to watch those girls in the showers. As punishment the three guys must accompany the girls on their final intiation task Steal this trophy out of the bowling alley at the mall. sounds good right? Wrong!!!
After they steal the trophy they drop it, and Poof! a wish granting imp comes, and starts granting false wishes. that work against everyone. Theres not much more to it than that folks. Sure Linea Quigley is...

Neat Stuff! Campy and fun.
This is quite a good movie about college nerds going to a bowling alley and releases an evil imp. Scream queens Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle (McLellan) Bauer all team up in this comedy-horror-fantasy movie and teamed up again in "The Nightmare Sisters" which is really hilarious and is by the same director, but it's nowhere as good as this. I think this movie was played in theatre's, if not it certainly was good enough to be.

Adored, The

Interesting Character Study Leaves A Few Unanswered Questions In Its Finale
We, as people, are always the most curious puzzles, and I think that's because we're always prone - at certain stages or periods in our lives - to do something in character that causes us unintentional harm. As much as we like to believe we're all creatures of fate, that old rub called `free will' inevitably forces us into dark alleys or (worse) the darker recesses of our mind where we think strange thoughts. Some of us even act on those strange thoughts, and that no doubt might lead us down into even darker alleys or into even darker places where the way back is either too treacherous to find or no longer the lesser of evils.

In many respects, that's the ground trod in THE ADORED, a character study of two women (and maybe even one man) that only flirts usefully with the kind of desolation we all shackle ourselves under in some way, shape, or form.

(NOTE: The following review will contain minor spoilers necessary solely for the discussion of plot and...

Great tension
I think the tension that builds throughout the movie is incredibly intelligent. The performances of the actors is a testament to the writing and direction of what is a rather emotional journey.

The Great Santini

Improved With Age
For those of you who are old enough, you probably know the feeling of disappointment whenever you view a film by which you were impressed many years earlier and find that it has not "aged" well. I was wary that that might be the case with The Great Santini because I had not seen it since it was released over twenty years ago. Instead, I found just the opposite for it remains an excellent film with excellent acting.

Has Robert Duvall ever given a less-than-superior performance? I'm sure not, and I was far more able to appreciate his portrayal of Bull Meechum the martinet head of the family for, with age, comes shades of gray not only in your hair but in your viewpoints. I hated Bull Meechum twenty years ago but am now better able to sympathize with this man who only knows how to express emotion through rage or bravado.

Blythe Danner as the strong-willed mother who is the emotional rock of the family is another excellent actor who is a treat to watch. She...

Amazing Plot, Superb Script, And Sublime Acting From A Brilliant Cast
I saw "The Great Santini" in the theatre in 1979 when it was first released. I always thought that Warner Brothers did a huge disservice to the film by retaining the original Pat Conroy book title (although the later re-release as "the Ace" also fails to inspire.) Despite the somewhat lackluster title, this is an absolutely superb film when viewed on many levels. I was originally interested in the film because of the aviation context, but that really only provides a medium for Robert Duvall to develop the character of Bull Meechum.

The real story here revolves around family and interpersonal dynamics in an early 1960s military family. Duvall gives a stunning performance in the title role as a hard charging Marine fighter pilot who finds expressions of affection next to impossible. Although a PG rated film, the language and violence (there is no nudity) are not excessive and are only used when necessary to further the plot (largely in the anti-racism subplot.) Despite this...

Bad Quality DVD
Once again Warner Brothers Takes a good film and doesn't bother trying to find a good master copy in order to do a decent transfer. What is it with them? It's bad enough that they have cheap cardboard covers let alone not even bothering trying to at least have decent copies.
This is a good film and deserved better treatment. SHAME ON WARNER BROTHERS AND THEIR CHEAP TREATMENT OF GOOD FILMS!

Special A: Complete Collection

To Rekindle Shojo Passions
I read the Special A manga in attempt to find something like the unforgettable Ouran High School Host Club, and it proved to be astounding. Intruiged I bought the anime. I admit I was skeptical because this was my first anime to watch in Japanese. I loved it! The art is amazing and the subtitles are great! The plot is riviting and all the side characters are given personalities that are breathtaking. There are twenty-four episodes with four discs and six episodes per disk. The box is just standard plastic, but it holds up well. There are not many special features, but with a show like this who needs them. The opening and closing sequences are cool and there are two diffrenet openings and closings. The songs are rather catchy. I am also happy that it did not end in a cliffhanger, but wound up nicely. This anime has become one of my favorites and I hope you enjoy it!

Enjoyable Enough Series Worth Looking Into
The series seems to have a nice mix of Ouran Host Club/Suzuka/Haruhi Suzumiya to it, and while the series won't blow you out of the water with its story or anything it's still a very enjoyable series to watch. The small basic story plot is that you have the main female character who has been defeated by the main male character since childhood in about almost everything still tries her all in getting her first victory over him but as the story progresses they also develop a romantic relationship that is unexpected by either of them and now both must try to sort out these new found feelings between them. The series overall story is enjoyable as are the other cast characters we have in the series as well, the series only comes subbed at this time but the cast did a terrific job in their character roles. The animation might feel a little reminiscent to series XXX/Holic or Tsubassa or even One Piece a little also the soundtrack was a nice match to the series as well nothing that...

The Good Life

Cheating
Grass is not always green on the otherside. Love and appreciate what you have . You will always have a storm , it is how you handle the storm .

Not good...
Best thing about this movie was looking at Christian Keyes the 10mins he was in the movie. The pacing of the film was terrible, the scenes were long and drawn out. Too many scenes of Honey in the car calling Jacque on her bluetooth, ranting and raving. The acting was sub-par and there were no real consequences to their actions. If you are trying to make a statement in a movie there has to be consequences that are heart-wrenching and thought provoking so that the audience can get the message loud and clear. Statistics at the end and clever statements or quotes at the end are not sufficient enough to arouse emotion. You have to build character in the relationships, make people care about them, sympathize, and identify with them. When you are able to do that, then hit them with the realities of bad decisions and their inevitable consequences.

Great movie
This was a very good movie.. I enjoyed the fact that both couples were successful... Great lessons in this movie.., be careful what you go looking for...

The Brood

Classic 70s Horror!
You cannot call yourself a Horror fan until you've seen this. It has the great slow lead up to the shocking end, and actually the effects are good. A must see!!

A fave from my youth...
I'm a horror/thriller author and I always state The Brood as one of the films which gave me purpose and a plan. The Brood (1979) is good, classic horror. Some of the creepiest scenes ever recorded on film! DO NOT MISS...it's a must for all horror lovers!

Cronenberg Gets Personal
THE BROOD is an early film for director David Cronenberg who is perhaps now better known for his dramatic films such as A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, EASTERN PROMISES, and A DANGEROUS METHOD. But, as most of us know, he started his career making what is known as Venereal Horror, or Body Horror. THE BROOD is an excellent example.

The film deals with the sudden appearance of disfigured child murderers who terrorize a Toronto family that is going through a difficult divorce. The wife, Nola (played by Samantha Eggar), is at a psychological retreat where she is being treated by Psychiatrist Hal Raglan (played by Oliver Reed), who has pioneered "psychoplasmics". After spending the weekend with Nola, her husband Frank (played by Art Hingle) discovers that there are bruises and scratches on their daughter's back. He immediately goes to Raglan, tells him that he will not be bringing his daughter anymore and believes that Raglan's techniques are hurting Nola. Two murders ensue, and...

THE PERSUADERS (INSTANT VIDEO) - CLASSIC BRITISH ENTERTAINMENT!
THE PERSUADERS was/is a 'very' entertaining British comedy-drama series from the ITC stable that starred Tony Curtis and Roger Moore as (polar opposite) wealthy playboys who spend their spare time as international crimestoppers. The series ran for only one season ('71-'72) before it was cancelled. Glad to see all the episodes available here on the instant video format.

In the episode, "A HOME OF ONE'S OWN" - When Danny (Tony Curtis) acquires an old derelict rundown English cottage, he has his heart set on restoring it to its former picturesque condition. While giving Brett (Roger Moore) a 'tour' of his newly acquired estate, an unknown woman is filming them from a distance and appears to have the place under surveillance - later claiming to be a bird watcher.

All is going well with Brett and Danny inside, when an uninvited guest suddenly appears - slamming a hatchet into the staircase rail exclaiming, "You're trespassing, this house is private property!" Danny...

Time warp!
Love having the ability to watch these older tv shows, especially The Persuaders. Everyone growing up in the U.S. in the 60s should watch at least one episode of this show, just to see the fashion, the cars, and the almost unbelievable over-the-top acting!

Humorous, highly entertaining series
Roger More is great as Lord Brett Sinclair!

"Greensleeves", "That's Me Over There" and "A Death in the Family" are my favorite episodes.

42 (Blu-ray/DVD + UltraViolet Digital Copy Combo Pack)

Plaaaay Ballll!
"Plaaaay Ballllll!" Yes, the Boys of Summer are at it again and this time, I learned a LOT about where American baseball has been and the fundamental changes that have happened in my lifetime. Even though we already know how it ends, thanks to a terrific PG-13 script by Brian Helgeland (Oscar for "L.A. Confidential") this insight into the Great American Pastime is an excellent reminder of how far we have come, thanks to courageous trail blazers like Jackie Robinson, who integrated professional baseball in 1945 at the instigation of Branch Rickey, a baseball executive who loved the game.

We cringe at the language used to attack our hero, we are saddened by the refusal of hotels and restaurants to serve a team that includes a black man, we are enraged by the racist heckling that takes place and we cheer when we see a man quietly rise above the rancor and "just play ball."

Here is a sample of the (huge) wonderful cast:
* Chatwick Boseman ("The Express" and...

Tale of Real Life Heroism
When I was a kid Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey were history, I read about them in books. But my baseball heroes were Billy Williams and Fergie Jenkins, to me they were always just baseball players, their being black wasn't a factor in either my liking or disliking of them, and "42" brings home the truly heroic effort and forces Jackie Robinson had to overcome.

"Sports movies" are best when they're a metaphor for other areas of our lives. "Field of Dreams" isn't really about baseball, "Rocky" isn't really about boxing, and "Hoosiers" really isn't about basketball. What those movies speak to are other forces in our lives that hopefully bring out the best in us, and while "42" isn't metaphorical it speaks directly to our views of race and racism.

"42" takes place between 1946 and 1948 when Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) brought Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) to the Brooklyn Dodgers and integrated baseball. The plot is as simple as that, the story isn't...

A good movie about a great baseball player.
When I was growing up, I listened to baseball on my radio at night and found myself imagining who these players were and what their lives were like. When I finally saw pictures of these men, I didn't think it was so strange that only one was a black man and the rest were white. Being a child from the midwest, I had no realization what the significance of that would be until later in my life. I enjoyed watching this movie as it took a trip back into time and helped give insight into the world of major league baseball and the men like Branch Rickey and Jackie Robinson who had the courage and grace to help this country take that giant step forward. As Dr. King said, this country should truly be about the content of your character and not the color of your skin. This is more than a movie about the all American game of baseball, this is a movie about us, about who we were, where we have been, and where we are going. Watch it, you won't be disappointed.

Moderately Entertaining
The Canadian drama The Border is finally available on DVD for the first time in the United States thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment releasing the complete first season on a three-disc set, which sent me a free copy of the DVD in exchange for my honest review.

The Border is a blend of NCIS and Law & Order, except the series focuses its attention on the fictional ICS (Immigration and Customs Security) agency as it protects the Canadian border from terrorist and smugglers. CAUTION! This is a cautionary tale, not a "feel-good" movie
This one kept me riveted throughout; I swear I didn't exhale until the last five minutes. No, I didn't see the ending coming, but it makes absolute sense given the ficton created therein (Roger Ebert is full of PRUNES when he says that it "flies apart in the last 30 minutes;" it not only works, it's the only way the film CAN end and maintain its integrity). The performances are spot-on (including Joan Cusack; hello? The woman is allowed to do something other than "zany" roles-- especially when she does so damned well with a role like this one), the plot is complex and yes, far-fetched, but pulls you in and keeps you in a stranglehold. But as I titled my review, do NOT watch this movie if you have to see good conquer evil/hope springs eternal etc.-- you WON'T LIKE IT. It is good drama, an excellent thriller, and while the nods to Ruby Ridge (NOT Waco,as has been suggested) and Oklahoma City made it timely when it was released, the events of 9-11-01 make it even more...

Ace of all thrillers!
This movie single handedly made me a huge Jeff Bridges fan. I have always loved the quirky Tim Robbins movies, so this was a double pleasure!

This is a suspencful, yet not pure eye candy thriller. There are a lot of reali life comaprisons to resistance groups spread all over the US ready to overthrow and show their disconent for the government while they end up punishing innocent people.

Bridges plays a College professor, who teaches a class on Terrorism, and little does he know that his own life is starting to follow the down spiral of the very bad things he teaches.

He becomes fast firends with the neighbours across the street as he saves their son one day. As he is enjoying the new friendship weird things keep occuring. There are suspicious things that they dont want him to see in the house, and when he tries to do his own spying to see what is going on, he finds out more than he can handle.

THis movie is really easy to spoil so I wont...

The scariest movie ever made in broad daylight
Noon. A suburb of Washington, DC, a street dotted with houses just a shade too small to be McMansions. No one is around.

Wait --- here comes someone. A boy. White, of course. About 9 years old. Dressed in jeans and high-top sneakers. Walking unsteadily in the middle of the street. Lurching, really.

And now we see why: blood dots his sneakers, makes a trail on the pavement.

Luckily, a resident comes along --- Michael Faraday (yes, he has the same name as the great scientist who experimented with electricity and magnetism). He scoops the boy up, rushes him to the hospital. Eventually, the boy's parents show up, grateful beyond measure that the rocket their son set off wasn't more powerful --- and that they have such a good neighbor.

And now we see the opening credits: distorted photos of suburban life. They look anything but peaceful. Clever movie lovers will recall shots like this in David Lynch's "Blue Velvet." Clearly, something evil...

A Goonish type film.
I thought it was good, 5 out of 6 of us liked it, one thought it was "cheesy". At least it was film the whole family could watch.

B movie
I guess I am spoiled by Disney movies. This movie was cute but not any where near the quality of other children's movies.

Really awesome movie for kids
This is a great movie that is thought provoking and keeps you involved through the whole movie. My son loves this move and has watched it 3 times already! It has sparked an interest in the Civil War for him. We both highly recommend it.

Sexual Freedom: Sex Stories 3

Sexual Freedom
Sexual Freedom is the third film of the Sex Stories trilogy. Honestly, it's a risque film, but that does not take away from the beauty of the journey Olvidie takes to find himself sexually, and discover that 'free love' is a lot more than he realized. I was pleasantly surprised at how much a enjoyed watching this film, and would certainly recommend this film to anyone who is considering it!

Very Hot!
This movie has some very good sex scenes in it! The women are very pretty and they do everything you would want them to do. It's very explicit showing full penetrations and all that goes with it. The story line is okay also.

Evil Dead (2013)

essentially the original, yet it's own film.
When I first heard that Evil Dead was being remade, I wasn't happy. I've grown tired of reboots and remakes and I felt that remaking Evil Dead was akin to trampling on sacred ground. After discovering that Raimi and Campbell were backing it, I gave in and joined the the party, my uptight "Dead purist" friends be damned. This version starts out with the same creepy cabin in the same creepy woods but with a new group of twenty somethings unwittingly walking into the slaughter. A new element is introduced when we find out that the gang is trying to help their friend Mia recover from a nasty heroin addiction. Making the trip is her estranged brother David who wasn't around when Mia had to deal with their mother's death. Needless to say, there are a lot of family issues that the two never hashed out and hard feelings are being felt.

If being drug out to a creepy cabin in the woods by her friends wasn't bad enough, things are going to get worse for Mia. Ignoring all blatant...

Where the hell is the unrated cut??
I am not happy. Great remake, but I was expecting an Unrated cut for blu-ray. If the studio thinks they are double-dipping off me, think again. I'm waiting on the Hobbit (extended cuts already confirmed) and I'm waiting on this too. Stop being so damn greedy Hollywood!

AN OVERWHELMING CRESCENDO OF FEAR, TERROR AND HORROR
I admit I was somewhat skeptical in sitting down to watch this film because of the various unfavorable reviews I had read. Well - fuhgeddaboudem! This is NOT a remake of the original movie from 30+ years ago - this is an ultra-modern version of the basic theme of that film, and it succeeds superbly. It's very rare that a horror movie carries me from the first scene to the last with such a powerful, relentless and unstoppable feeling of accelerating dread and doom. ("The Exorcist" is the benchmark for me in this regard.) But this film did it for me, and because of so many factors, not least of which is the musical score - a brilliant synthesis of different styles and techniques that it can virtually stand alone as an hommage to the horror genre. The cast is uniformly excellent, the cinematography is astounding, the production values are first-rate and the director obviously had a clear vision of what he wanted to achieve - namely, to scare the living crap out of us - and he does...

Wild Bill

EVERYONE IS A PHILOSOPHER
Wild Bill (Charlie Creed-Miles) has spent 8 years in prison. He has returned home and doesn't want to go back. He has discovered his wife has run off to Spain and his 11 an 15 year old sons James (Sammy Williams) and Dean (Will Poulter) are fending for themselves and would prefer not having their estranged father in their life. Bill wants to run off to Scotland and get away from everything, but child services has a different idea.

The family is thrust together and Bill tries to keep things clean in his old crack dealing neighborhood which doesn't go too well.

Like most UK productions the drama sometimes crosses lines with a twisted dark comedy that looks like tragedy. Good acting. Andy Serkis of LOTR fame has a small role as the big boss.

PARENTAL GUIDE: F-bombs, near sex, no nudity (bra /panties Charlotte Spencer) adult themes

A British Crime Saga That Combines Dark Humor And Urban Violence With Unexpected Heart
I have seen so many small serio-comic romps set in Britain's criminal element, I rarely expect to be surprised anymore. This is territory that filmmakers such as Guy Ritchie and Matthew Vaughn have turned into a mini-genre all its own. To all appearances, Dexter Fletcher's "Wild Bill" seems to tick all of the anticipated boxes: huge cast of familiar faces, quirky criminals, burst of explicit violence, dark humor, family and workplace dysfunction, an enigmatic underworld boss, and lots and lots of drugs. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy these movies! When done well, they are a load of twisty and twisted fun. I just think that they've developed a formula that I've come to expect and, therefore, can lack a certain originality. "Wild Bill," however, did surprise me. While not exactly revelatory in plot, the movie demonstrates a real heart and that makes the experience stand out. The relationships at the center of "Wild Bill" are well orchestrated and I really cared about the...

Very enjoyable movie
I gave it a four because it is not the best movie ever but most will find it very entertaining, moving and satisfying. You might want to use subtitles if you find British accents hard to understand.

A great scifi movie!
Paradox takes place in a world where everything is controlled by magic. So,when a man is killed by a piece of lead that entered his body from another earth, police detective Sean Nault(Kevin Sorbo)is called upon to investigate. The piece of lead,a bullet,is something very strange to the people of this alternate earth.Nault meets a woman who may provide clues to this other earth. He soon learns that both worlds could be destroyed unless he acts quickly! I won't say anything else except check this movie out-I think you will like it!

Campy but cute
I liked it. Never read the trilogy, but thought this movie pulled things together rather well. Decent acting...will always love Kevin Sorbo because of all he keeps doing despite his health issues.... OK, and he's still pretty easy on the eye :)As I said, a bit campy at times, but I liked the story even with the sappy ending.

From purchase, and worked on our tans.

"Relent" we did cry, "Cease this shameless attempt
"To separate us from our cash".
"No chance" the execs said with sneering contempt,

"Never!", we cried, "Not the packs slack
"Nor party, nor even the best in the world!
"Buy THAT? Are you high? On meth or on crack?"
And we sneered in return, our lips curled:

"These random selections are not what we need!
"You greed-heads sure do have...

After a long wait, fans now have their wishes granted.
Previous DVDs of this show would be presented in a form of single discs with random episodes from various seasons. (a partial norm of CN's distributions) Good things come to those who wait, and it now shows.

The show itself is, thankfully, one of the best CN shows out there. The title may sound like just a regular show... but that's what you would least expect. The humor and characters (along with very solid casting) are the aspects that make this show what it is. While it shouldn't be shown to very young kids (hence the TV-PG rating), the humor is spot-on to older kids and adults. Along with Adventure Time, this show is definitely worth seeing. Buying the show in season form is definitely a highest recommendation.

About Time
Finally Warner Brothers Figured it out . They finally know what we want! Screw the Slack Pack! Hopefully they'll keep releasing them in this format.

Adored, The (Romance Art)

Great
Great script, incredible ending. This is where the common film departs the common story, where the start, middle and ending are the same..

THE PROTECTORS COMES TO INSTANT VIDEO
From 1972, THE PROTECTORS is a fun series from the ITC stables (the same studio that brought "The Saint", "The Champions", "The Persuaders", etc.) and starred Robert Vaughn, Nyree Dawn Porter and Tony Anholt as international crime fighters and was filmed at various locations over in Europe.

A fun episode is titled "It Could Be Practically Anywhere On The Island" and involves the kidnapping of two pound puppy poodle belonging to a woman who is vacationing in Europe. The kidnappers originally planned on using the pup to smuggle some microfilm until a funny (and predictable) complication occurs that puts the kibash on their plans! This episode is a good one for animal lovers. (Guest stars: Linda Staab, Sherwood Price, and Madeleine Hinde)

Although the run time for each episode is around only 25 minutes which didn't allow for much character development, still it makes for enjoyable programming and a nice trip down memory lane despite this shortcoming. The...

Find and Destroy

Tight plots, quick action, believable characters
The black and white filming adds to this cold war drama series. The main character is believable (even if sometimes it comes through that he acts like he's been trained on stage - was he?) and the supporting characters all have believable motivations. As the episodes progress, "Danger Man" deals with more and more complex situations, though they are not unbelievable. These episodes are much more interested in creating believable spy than they are in trying to create super-villains or super-heroes. The only part missing is an explanation as to why this troubleshooter is so motivated to do the right thing. Though I have read online that it is these episodes that eventually led the actor to create "The Prisoner", which deals with they mystery as to why "Danger Man" quit the spy business.

Spider-Man 2 (Mastered in 4K) (Single-Disc Blu-ray + Ultra Violet Digital Copy)

Spider-Man 2 surpasses the original!
Just when I was about ready to throw in the towel on Hollywood and its univentive sequel/remake/book adaption craze of unoriginal recycling, I sat down to see the second chapter in Sam Raimi's "Spider Man" series. While I enjoyed the first film, it never really drew me in emotionally. It had some real cool action sequences and some interesting special effects but the story was very paint-by-numbers comic book fare. I enjoyed the film's cinematic style, which seemed to me like an homage to the 50's-style of films, but while I wasn't turned off by the the hero's backstory, I was never fully compelled by it either. When I had heard all of the cast members spit the usual studio speech about how the sequel would be even better, I took it very much with a grain of salt. By the time I came out of this movie, however, I was a believer.

"Spider Man 2" takes place two years after the original where Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is struggling with the realization that his superhero alter-ego...

The Best Movie of 2004
Spiderman 2 has some of the highest expectations to ever be placed on a movie. Spiderman grossed $403 million dollars and is the fifth most successful movie in U.S. history. Spiderman 2 could shatter that number.

The Best Superhero Movie Ever
"Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seat belts."

Spider-Man 2 was everything a comic book movie should be. From the opening credits, which were done cleverly by using comic stills to explain the events of the first film, to the closing credits, I sat in the jam packed sold out movie theater mesmerized as Sam Raimi flawlessly put together the definitive comic book movie.

To begin with, I enjoyed this movie more than the first one in every category. I felt more characterization. I could relate with Parker's emotions on a higher level than the first movie. Also, all of the other characters put on better acting performances than the previous installment. The overall plot, I felt, was better too. This time, the plot surrounded Peter Parker, played by Toby Maguire, going through the days with his ongoing struggle as he leads on a double life. He has no time for his friends, his school work; he's even on the brink of being fired from his job of a pizza delivery boy...

Kent Brown knows his Civil War stuff!
Kent Brown rightfully wears the mantel of Civil War historian William Townsend. Just as Townsend helped redefine our knowledge base of Abraham Lincoln ("Lincoln and his Wife's Hometown"), Brown details a mostly overlooked and fascinating episode in the early Rebel struggle: To control the strategically important state of Kentucky. The side that controls Kentucky controls the Ohio and upper Mississippi rivers. Long story short, the narrative includes the longest military movement by rail in world history. The failure of the Confederacy to control Kentucky (even though it won a tactical victory at Perryville) was the first domino to fall in the inevitable collapse of the Southern Cause in the Western Theatre. And Kent brings it alive with detailed maps, description of the military leaders on both sides, and intricately interwoven live action from contemporary reenactments. Make this a part of your Sesquicentennial experience -- and look for Kent's books that unveil other less-known...

Combat Zone

Action-packed Television Documentary
CZ does a great job of giving you a good look at various firefights throughout modern history. Fights are recreated and intermixed with actual combat footage, and interviews with the guys who were actually on the ground doing the fighting. This is not your grandfathers war documentary. The show moves at a fast pace and is really focused more on the combat action itself. Similar to Battlefield 360, computer generated graphics supplement the narration and gives the viewer a good 360 degree view of the battlespace, which really offers a unique and clear perspective of how things unfold during a particular engagement. You get the entire series in single boxed set, so it's really a nice DVD series to own for any modern military history buff.

Put down the video game and understand the costs of freedom. I really like the information this series provides. Our troops have always been amaxing people and this will show you why. MUST SEE ! and God Bless the USA

not a documentary, mostly hyped/faked re-enactments
This is not a documentary, and it is not a historical account. It is a hyped-up, made-for-TV series.

They group the episodes by certain battles, but they are not in any logical order. For any particular episode/battle, they show some real footage related to the location, but the footage is not related to that particular battle...it's just footage from the country location in general. The rest of the show is re-enactments and interviews.

The docudrama style re-enactments are obviously fake. There are a lot of shaky handheld re-enactment shots. They use a lot "attention grabbing" film techniques. They aren't telling stories here, they are making-up stories...and it seems the taller they can make the stories, the better. Checkout some scenes on youtube by searching for 7Y10FR4Vry4 or njbTLYSh1bM.

An Affair of the Heart: Rick Springfield [2-disc Blu-ray]

Very Enjoyable
Emily at BluntReview (dot)com says: Music, for some, is just a nice kind of background cacophony of notes strung together that they use to invigorate, stimulate, unwind or get through. For others, a group, or a song, absolutely grips into a part of the brain that would otherwise seek pharmaceuticals for such wild reactions of visceral happiness. The rush of endorphins creates a bond. In many cases, a loyal bond that spreads over decades - and Billboard popularity.

Being of the later group myself (I had/have"The Keiths" - Moon and Richards), I really enjoyed the look into pop star Rick Springfield's current going ons, and those who are still following his creations. Admittedly, I'd (sadly) dismissed this real talent, as a bubble gum sort of McCutey. I glanced, gave a listen, and pinned him as a marketing campaign wrapped into an - obviously - handsome shell with a perfectly sellable song or two. Well, yes, and no.

Here in An Affair of the Heart Springfield - who...

Rick fan must see!!
Saw this film at the Malibu premiere in 9/2011. Wonderful footage of concerts and interviews. Endearing portraits of Rick fans.... Shows why we love the man and his music!

Surprisingly Emotional!
An Affair of the Heart is much more than meets the eye. This movie gives Rick Springfield's fans a glimpse in to the heart of this rock legend - which is very tender indeed - especially toward his loyal fans. Rick has matured into more than just an accomplished performer, actor, singer, artist, writer, and amazing guitar player, he has arrived at that spot in life where he loves what he does and realizes that the deep connection with his followers is the reason he continues to thrive as an artist. The tenderness with which Rick interacts with his fans explains why he continues to succeed!
One also sees Rick through the eyes of his adoring fans. Cult following would not be the correct description... but faithful and maybe a bit obsessive. Heartstrings are pulled and one can't help but laugh out loud or maybe, more appropriately, giggle like a school girl alongside some of Rick true fans.
I honestly didn't know what to expect from this movie. I loved it! Enjoyable, fun,...

Lady Vanishes

In some respects better than the original
Why pay the $125 quoted here when this entertaining thriller is readily available on DVD from Region 2 (Europe) retailers. Armed with a region-free player and you have access to a whole wealth of movies that are not released yet in Region 1 for example HIGH ROAD TO CHINA (Region 2), SILVER BEARS (Region 4) and THE FOURTH PROTOCOL (Region 2) to name just a few.

In regards to this entertaining movie I actually prefer this version to the original Hitchcock classic, it is made highly enjoyable and entertaining due to the presence of so many famous faces from British and American television. Witness the two cricket fans - who can watch this scene and not think about the two actors in their familiar DAD'S ARMY roles?

Cybill Shepherd would later go on to much success in the show MOONLIGHTING and of course Angela Lansbury eventually found worldwide fame for her turn as the female sleuth in MURDER SHE WROTE. Here Lansbury plays a nanny turned spy who is attempting to get...

effective remake of Hitchcock's final British movie
This is a very effective remake of Hitchcock's THE LADY VANISHES, Alfred Hitchcock's last British-made movie before plying his trade in America.

Cybill Shepherd plays madcap heiress Amanda, who gets caught up in a whirlwind adventure of danger and espionage, when her train companion Miss Froy (Angela Lansbury) mysteriously disappears en route through Germany.

Unbeknownst to Amanda and the rest of the passengers, the seemingly innocent and quaint Miss Froy is on a mission to deliver an important code to the British Intelligence. The decision to place the story at the eve of World War 2 makes the adventure and tension even more palpable.

Cybill Shepherd and Elliott Gould put a refreshing 'screwball' spin to their performances while Angela Lansbury is sensational as Miss Froy. The rest of the cast includes Herbert Lom, Arthur Lowe, Rosalind Knight, Ian Carmichael and Madge Ryan.

Cybill does it AGAIN!!!
Running alongside a train in a slinky white satin dress Cybill Shepherd makes your blood boil! This remake of a classic is better than the original! Cybil shows she can actand is not just a pretty face! Rarely shown on tv if you can get a copy of the tape Sit back and enjoy!!

El Milagro de Marcelino Pan y Vino

Just As Good As the Original!
Highly recommended for the entire family regardless of which Christian affiliation! Slightly different than the original but wonderfully done with a more detailed story line.

The original much better than the remake
I enjoyed it but since I liked the original so much the additions to the new one was not much to my liking.

If you could but believe as a little child....
This film is a beautiful, cinematic representation of the biblical injunction [I'll paraphrase]: "If you could but believe as a little child." Marcelino is precisely such a little child and it never occurs to him not to believe. His belief is potent because of its simplicity. There is a miracle and Marcelino is transfigured. Yes, I would have done the last part of the film a little differently but that's a matter of personal taste.

Exciting, Beautiful and Fast Pace!
I watched this movie in theaters and I was amazed. This movie does a great job of showing the many many sides, shapes, sounds and colors of our beautiful Mexican Culture. BRAVO. Waiting for a sequel.

Erased

Far from home. Far from safe. Far from over.
The true star of this better than average espionage thriller is Belgium. Shot in Antwerp and Brussels the cities are extraordinarily beautiful, written by Arash Amel and directed by Philipp Stölzl - both of whom are young and new to the business and it shows.

Ben Logan (Aaron Eckhart in a solid performance) is an ex-CIA agent employed by a huge conglomerate Halgate and working for one of their subsidiary companies as a security engineer. He has invited his daughter Amy (Liana Liberato) to move from the US to Belgium to live with him to reconnect after a lengthy separation. Ben's job is to try to get pass security protocols, fool the eye scanners and break into safes. But overnight Ben discovers that his company, Halgate, no longer inhabits his workplace and that all evidence of Ben's existence has been erased. Slowly he discovers that there is a huge conspiracy surrounding his employer and that soon he and his daughter will become subjects of a manhunt. Ben's...

Worth the $10 to Me
I decided to rent this movie now than wait a few weeks and see it on the big screen. I enjoyed it. It's not a "Hollywood" movie. There isn't a glossy look and storyline. It's realistic and cold and despite another reviewers comment, she (the daughter) didn't whine that much. Or maybe I thought she acted like a teenager getting to know her father while missing her dead mother and living in a foreign country. I liked enough of the trailer to want to see this movie and it took me for a ride. The plot and action was enough to keep me in the picture and interested in how it would end. That is what I look for in a movie. The bonus was watching in my pj's while eating popcorn with real butter.

Is this a great movie? No. Is this a good movie? Yes, it is to me. That's why I gave it four stars. The average is a three, but you know...I may read the reviews but in the end I make up my own mind.

I didn't notice a sound problem on my iPad. I did get it...

Good spy movie
Good movie overall with good fight and tech scenes. I didn't think that the sound track was overwhelming like another user said.

Living In Harmony

Plant of Doom

THE BEST Gerry Anderson Series!
I love all the GERRY ANDERSON 'SUPERMARIONATION' series BUT this is my favorite! Why? Distinct and complete character development! While THUNDERBIRDS and CAPTAIN SCARLET focus more on the ships and gadgets....STINGRAY focuses more on TROY TEMPEST, ATLANTA, MARINA, PHONES, COMANDER SHORE, TITAN, X2-0, etc. I have the BRITISH version of the set and it does have many more extras that I wish they would release in the states...Guest appearances on BRITISH TV Shows, Bumper cards, Memorabillia, Commercials...not sure why they just can't add this stuff on the A&E releases??? This is a GREAT series and the prints look EXCELLENT! Rick Goldschmidt RANKIN/BASS Historian

Review addition!
Clarification: After reviewing the set and then receiving the set...I Must applaud A&E for the brilliant 20 minute BEHIND-THE-SCENES special on the 5th disc! Finally...the puppeteers get to talk about their work and you actually get to see inside the puppet's heads! Also on DISC 5, they did include the lost footage from the 40th Episode! BRAVO!

Great fun
Stingray is part three in the Gerry Anderson five part development (and eventual perfection) of marionette based shows. 'Supercar" was crude and campy good 1960 kidshow fun. "Fireball XL5" had significant improvements in technique. "Stingray" was in color and was a dramatic leap ahead in set design, marionette action, scripting, and special effects. "Thunderbirds" remains the best of the lot with hour long scripts, "gee whiz!" special effects, some funny character development (such as the humourously irritable dialogue of the pyramid explorers in "The Uninvited"), and action scenes. Stingray is famous for its underwater special effects which were advanced for 1963-64. No one had seen anything like it up until then. Stingray has the best fully developed characters with Troy, Phones, Atlanta, and Marina. Stingray is enjoyable and highly nostalgic.

White Frog

Best movie I've seen in a long time
Everything about this movie is great. The plot is beautifully constructed, the acting is excellent, the pacing is good, there is a powerful theme, and the story has lots of heart. Give it a few minutes to get going. The opening scenes set the stage for what follows and don't reveal the incredible impact the movie ends up delivering. And yes, the title is fitting but not in a way you're likely to guess. This is one of the few films I'll never forget. Very highly recommended.

Addresses several issues confronting todays young people
I think this is a great movie that addresses Asperger's Syndrome, religion/GLTB issues, as well as the impact of losing someone very close. These are issues that many face daily.

The performance of BooBoo Stewart alone is worth the time to view it. Tyler Posey gives a great performance as well.

Fine Film, Memorable performances
When I read a short synopsis of this movie, I was intrigued. Asperger's Syndrome has become more prevalent in recent years, and seeing it portrayed on film, particularly by someone who does not suffer from it, was quite fascinating and (in this case) well done.

I was actually surprised at how well a Twilight-saga-veteran could act; BooBoo Stewart is endearing as Nick, a young man with Asperger's dealing with the stress of both dealing with his brother (Chaz)'s death and discovering his brother's secret life. BD Wong plays the difficult but necessary role of the frustrated and grieving parent with a harsh believability, and the motley crew of Chaz's friends who take Nick in after their friend's death provide good drama and much needed comic relief. Harry Shum Jr., as Chaz himself, is stunning.

Overall, this is a strong, heartwarming film that dares to question the ideas of normal and perfect in today's society.
